With this being my first exhibition in London, I didn’t really know what to expect but it definitely exceeded my expectations!
The exhibition was held at The Greenwich Gallery, which is situated a few hundred metres from the well known Greenwich Market. The gallery itself is very well lit with clean fresh white walls and skylight windows that let in some great natural light.I decided to show some of my larger pieces to give it some scale and to create the feeling that you are in the wave. I also had my Sea & Salt Incense burning to create an immersive experience whilst viewing my work.
Next door to the gallery is The Royal Hill Community Gardens, this is a magical oasis that is run and maintained by local residents. Most mornings I would sit and have breakfast there whilst relaxing in the tranquil surroundings. It’s great to see that more communities are working together to make a really positive impact on their neighbourhood. It reminded me of home where there are many local groups making the area a much better place to live.
On the opening day of the exhibition BBC News came along and did a feature to get a better understanding of how I approach my art and photography. The interview was carried out by Claudia Sermbezis and went out on the news that evening. The private view followed shortly after the news coverage and I was surprised to see how many people came along to see my work. I was lucky enough to meet some great people and artists from the local area and the response to my work was truly overwhelming and with a few sales made it could not have gone better.
Over the next couple of days I was seeing an increase in the number of visitors due to an article in the Greenwich Visitor and recommendations to come and see the show. The support from local press and from local businesses on social media helped massively to let people know that the show was on. I did try and get to as many of them as possible whether it be for a beer or some of the amazing food on offer in Greenwich, and there is a lot to choose from!
Exhibiting in Greenwich has been a fantastic experience and I would like to thank everyone for there support. I will definitely be visiting again soon!
